Reading BSAC signs Lease
with Reading Borough Council for new Clubhouse Premises at Palmer Park,
Wokingham Road, Reading
After many years at our present clubhouse, at Kings Meadow, Reading
BSAC (The Reading Branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club) has been offered new
clubhouse premises next to the Sports Stadium at Palmer Park, Reading. This move represents an excellent opportunity
for the branch to move to a clubhouse in the centre of a sporting area
(athletics, cycling, football, cricket, tennis, bowls and many smaller sports
are all undertaken at a serious level within the grounds of Palmer Park).
On Wednesday, 28th June 2006, the two Trustees of
Reading BSAC, Tina Sargent and John Bawden (present Chairman and Honorary
Secretary) signed the new Lease for Palmer Park (photographs on this
page). The new Lease will have a start
date in early July.
The new premises can become an excellent new sub-aqua diving
clubhouse, but there is a lot of building work to be undertaken first. We already have planning permission for
conversion of the existing building to a clubhouse, with boat suite and
equipment suite. The covered usable area
is at least equal to that at Kings Meadow.
We also have additional planning permission for the addition of a porch
/ foyer to the front, and already have Building Regulation approval for the
full development.
Preliminary works have already started, but we will need all
volunteers we can find if we are to be in the premises by next Winter. Our next major challenge is to change the
roof. Please contact Bernard Hinton or
John Bawden to volunteer your skills or just hard work. This work does clash with diving activities
(of course), but it is a one-off event.
Please volunteer.
Herewith are some as-we-started-photographs and a location map.
See you there.
John Bawden
